Help erase Bible poverty
“There is nothing quite like hearing the Word of God. They are spirit. They are life. They have the power to change, the power to heal, the power to save. But what if you couldn’t understand a single phrase or grasp a single line because it was somebody else’s language?”
More than one billion people live in Bible poverty, with no access to a Bible in their heart language. To help solve this problem, ten Bible translation partners joined together in 2010 to form a network known as illumiNations, rallying around a campaign they call Share Light 2033. Their goal: to have the Bible translated into every language by 2033.
Of the more than 6,300 languages that are currently used, more than 3,870 have little to no Scripture. The Share Light campaign aims to erase that deficit, giving 95% of the world a full Bible, 99.96% of the world a New Testament, and 100% of the world at least some Scripture in their heart language.
Right now you’re probably thinking something like, Wow, that’s a very important task. I hope they succeed, but there’s nothing I can do to help. Good luck! If so, you’re wrong. If you’re reading this, you can help, playing a part in giving everyone on Earth access to the Bible. But how? IllumiNations offers 3 ways for you to get involved.
It takes money to do these translations, so financial giving can be a big help. You don’t have to give a lot to make an impact, though. According to illumiNations, a gift of just $35 will translate one Bible verse.
IllumiNations needs more people to join the campaign. You can use your influence and connections in your community to mobilize people for the mission. Help by hosting a campaign at your church, with your small group, at work, or wherever you have community.
If you want to host a Share Light campaign, illumiNations provides helpful resources such as promotional videos, Powerpoint presentations, Bible studies, a Digital Media Download Kit, and more.
“Tell your friends. Tell your family. Tell your church. Tell your neighbor. Follow our campaign’s newsletter and social channels to stay updated on what God is doing, and share it with others,” says illumiNations.
To help you share, illumiNations provides some social media assets, video assets, and more.
If you’re reading this, you can help by taking one or more of the actions above. Bible literacy is so important, and it’s heartbreaking that over a billion people have no way to read the Word of God. Indigitous invites you to pray about how best you can join the Share Light campaign to help everyone have access to the Bible in their language.
