Good Digital Engagement Can Help Make Disciples Digitally

Heather Schuster is the Communications Manager for Power to Change – Students and also curates the news blog on their website. She recently caught up with Jess Versteeg, one of our speakers at the upcoming Indigitous conference, which will start in about 11 days.

Indigitous Waterloo will offer some very exciting live learning opportunities as we hear from a series of expert speakers. They will all bring their unique perspective to bear on our theme of digital engagement. One of these speakers is P2C’s own Jessica Versteeg. We asked Jessica to give us some hints into what she’ll be sharing at the conference and why she’s excited about it.

Heather: Jessica, you’re obviously passionate about digital media. Digital media and making disciples… Tell us how you think those two relate?

Jessica: Digital media connects with everything, especially if it relates to anyone below the age of 35. We are digital natives. Particularly for our generation, there is no longer a boundary between online and offline life. It’s just all life. We can disciple and influence others through our tweets, our Facebook posts, and our blog posts as we model what it looks like to live life as a follower of Jesus Christ.

Heather: Tell us what you think makes Indigitous Conference unique and why you’re personally looking forward to it.

Jessica: Indigitous Conference is unique because it seeks to empower people to use digital media to connect others with Jesus. I’ve never heard of another conference with this sole focus. I’m definitely looking forward to the conference. I think it will be a great opportunity to connect with others who are also interested in digital engagement. I know I’ll have the opportunity to brainstorm with others and collaborate, learn from their initiatives, and share my own ideas.

Heather: Don’t spoil any surprises, but give us a hint about what you’re planning to discuss in your segment of the conference.

Jessica: I serve with Power to Change in Quebec, a challenging place to do ministry. I’m going to share a bit about what we’re learning in Quebec about digital engagement and some key perspectives required to have digital success in a difficult place.

We invite you to join us at Indigitous Waterloo (it’s still not too late to sign up!) to hear speakers like Jessica share their creative ideas. Visit indigitous.org/waterloo to register and find full conference details. If you can’t come for the whole conference, consider coming with just a day pass for November 6th.
