MissionsxTech: Shaping Heroes in the 21st Century

“To reach the unreached, we must do what no one else is doing. This is the essence of Indigitous’ meetups.” – Jonah J. Indigitous Engagements Lead

Indigitous recently teamed up with Cru Philippines to host MissionsxTech — a meetup to spread the gospel across the Philippines and familiarize leaders with using tech to make disciples. We heard inspiring testimonies from leaders who empowered each other to innovate in the digital space. Here are the highlights from each session!

Celebrating film in Cebu City

The first event took place in Cebu City on the 14th of October and appealed to over 30 film enthusiasts who attended the event. A few notable mentions include Ronald Carampil, a vlogger for apl.de.ap.—one of the founding members of the band Black Eyed Peas, and a digital strategist with Cru Philippines who shared pathways to start digital ministries.

Learning to create a strong virtual presence in Cagayan de Oro

We were encouraged by the response in Cebu City and decided to host another gathering the following weekend in Cagayan de Oro. We were joined by a few women in the tech industry who spoke about the use cases of social media and digital marketing to create a strong virtual presence. One attendee shared her experience working on an offline discipleship mobile app specifically designed for individuals exploring their faith in Jesus. We were excited to hear how God is working through all of us in unique ways.

Spotlighting the significance of meetups for leaders

Jonah recognized a key similarity between the MissionsxTech initiative and The Marvels movie. “Both of them symbolize how the combined effect is greater than their separate parts,” Jonah says. In the film, the three female leads had to work together to defeat the antagonist because they were not strong enough individually. Similarly, the MissionsxTech strategy spares no effort in spreading the gospel to the unreached and ensuring we raise up Godly leaders to continue the journey across the country.

“Both of them symbolize how the combined effect is greater than their separate parts,” Jonah says.

These meetups were an opportunity for leaders to have experiences beyond their current opportunities. It reminded them of the challenges that exist globally beyond their immediate spaces. The leaders felt more accountable to pursue projects and encourage new initiatives.

MissionsxTech Davao continued this idea of collective learning and invited members who used to be a part of Cru to the event on the 28th of October. We managed to expand the Indigitous vision and help the alumni recognize the potential of the digital space for evangelism.

Testimonies from attendees in Quezon City

The last session was hosted in Quezon City on the 11th of November and empowered attendees to start creating content to build stronger Christian communities. These virtual communities can enable other believers to connect and share their stories which resonate with each other. One of the attendees found her calling through the sessions and began documenting her faith journey on her Instagram account, @akosinebik. She uses it as a source of encouragement to her audience.

The future of MissionsxTech

We are excited to continue building momentum and maintaining consistency for this project. We plan to host more virtual meetups in the future to broaden our reach and make these gatherings more inclusive. “This is only the start to an extraordinary journey,” said Jonah. “The meetups are a doorway to further engagements.”
