Help combat cyberbulling using technology
Too many young people have been the victim of cyberbullying. Can we help youth and adults identify it, empower bystanders, provide digital literacy resources, and encourage reporting of cyberbullying?
Cyberbullying occurs when electronic media is used to intimidate or bully, and is estimated to affect at least half of youth or adolescents. It can occur on phones, computers, and other devices through texting, social media, and other means. Parents and other adults in their lives are often unaware of the issue, and don’t know how to identify when it’s occurring.
We need ways for youth and adults to access resources that help them identify, report, and cope with cyberbullying, as well as ways to help them prevent it. Digital literacy and empathy training are possible approaches, as well as technology that makes resources more easily accessible. Together, let’s work towards a world where we can all be safe as we engage in the digital world.
