In the early morning haze of Chennai, you step out into the day as the city begins to stir. A tea vendor lifts a steaming kettle, auto-rickshaws weave their bright colors through traffic, and children in uniforms dart between the familiar sounds of horns and street dogs.
Amid all of it, you pause for a moment and open a Bible app in Tamil on your phone. The words appear softly against the glow of the screen.
A quiet worship.
A steady faith.
This is India: crowded yet intimate, ancient yet digital, full of stories and possibility.
And faith continues to move: often unseen, but unmistakably alive.
Faith and Tech by the Numbers
India is a nation of staggering scale.
According to Joshua Project, it is home to 1.45 billion people. While the country is a vibrant tapestry of cultures and beliefs, the Christian community remains a small minority, accounting for approximately 2% of the population. This leaves an enormous mission field: a population of 1.39 billion people (95.9%) are considered unreached by the Gospel.

Yet, this enormous spiritual challenge is met by an equally staggering digital opportunity. India’s digital revolution is in full swing, turning the physical distances of the nation into mere pixels apart.

India’s Short-Video Surge

A recent report by ShareChat and Moj, titled “Short Form Big Impact: Festive Blueprint,” reveals a major shift in Indian consumer behavior driven by short-form video platforms. The findings show that 81% of Indian consumers engage with short-form videos daily.
This presents a critical missional mandate for Christians in India: the Church must shift its investment from traditional, analog methods toward equipping a new generation of digital storytellers—creators who can craft culturally resonant, compelling short videos that point people to the enduring hope of Jesus Christ.
The Missional Question
In a nation where almost 1.4 billion people remain unreached, the digital space is not optional.
A message can travel where a missionary cannot. A prayer can cross boundaries no passport can. A testimony can spark faith in someone who has never walked into a church.
The question for believers today is:
How will we show up for people online? Not with arguments or with pressure but with presence. With kindness and a steady witness of Christ-like love, one online conversation or video can make a difference.
Faith in India is moving quietly, beautifully, digitally. And the story is still being written.
And if you would love to reach people for Jesus in India, we would love to hear from you.
