Indigitous Values: Mission

One of the core values of Indigitous is mission. We believe God’s mission is our mission. We believe if you’re a follower of Christ, you have a place in God’s mission.

What comes to your mind when you think of a mission? If you’re a gamer, you might think of the different quests you go on in a roleplaying game. You might think of a team-oriented mission in a war game like Call of Duty. These games usually have your primary mission, which is the large, overarching mission for that level, along with some side quests. Most of the time, the side quests are smaller, fun objectives that are optional. When playing Spider-Man, you can take a break from trying to stop supervillains and go on a side quest to help a girl find her grandpa.

In real life, we’ll go on many side quests. They could be fun things like playing sports or something serious like working to provide for our families. But we should never lose sight of the mission we’ve been given: God’s mission.

One of the last things Jesus did while on Earth was to gather his disciples and give them a mission. “Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age’” (Matthew 28:16-20).

That mission has been entrusted to all followers of Jesus. As you go on all the various side quests in your life, don’t lose track of the mission. Indigitous values living a life on mission because we believe that’s how God calls us to live.

The mission is important because God desires everyone to be saved. Even so, billions of people don’t have a relationship with God, and many of them have never even heard of Jesus. There’s a lot of work to be done.

You’ve never locked eyes with someone who doesn’t matter to God. Everyone you follow on TikTok, debate with on Threads, and share tips with on subreddits is someone with whom God wants a thriving relationship. You can’t change anyone’s heart, but by living on mission, you can open up opportunities for people to respond to the gospel.

God calls all of His followers to the Great Commission, but not everyone’s mission takes the same form. We all have a unique place in God’s mission. For some, it may be going into vocational ministry. For others, it’s being the hands and feet of God in our schools and workplaces. For some, it’s representing God on social media or when gaming on Twitch. So if you want start living on mission, the first step is discovering your place in God’s mission.
