Vietnam

You weave your way through the morning traffic on your motorbike, with the air carrying the scent of coffee and street food.

There’s your usual café! Small plastic stools. A metal table. And a view of scooters rushing past. You stay here. The barista already knows your order.

You open your phone. News. Music. Comedy. Livestreams of people selling clothes, food, anything. A reel about stress. A short video asking, “Are you fulfilled?”

You don’t say it out loud, but the question sits quietly inside you.

Is there something more to life than working hard, being strong, and keeping peace?

You look around and think that maybe, you’re not the only one wondering. Just maybe, across Vietnam, millions are asking the same quiet questions. Questions about purpose, identity, and hope.

Faith and Tech by the Numbers

Vietnam is home to more than 100 million people, yet only about 10.2% identify as Christian. According to the Joshua Project, nearly 9.6% of the population remains unreached with the Gospel – millions who may never hear the message through traditional means.

Vietnam has a population of approximately 100.7 million, with about 10.2% identifying as Christian. An estimated 9.6% of the population, or around 9.63 million people, live among unreached people groups, where access to the Gospel is limited.

But the digital landscape tells another story.

Data Reportal says that digitally, Vietnam is highly connected. As of January 2025, there are 79.8 million internet users and  76.2 million active social media user identities, showing how deeply woven online interaction is into daily life.

Messaging Apps Shape Daily Life

An article in Vn Express says that Apps like Zalo have become central to communication. It’s faster, personal, and often intimate. People are chatting more than ever.

Estimated Digital Overview (2024):

  • 79.8 million internet users as of January 2025
  • 78.8% internet penetration across the country
  • 76.2 million active social media users

These aren’t just statistics. They’re windows. Each scroll, each share, and each message is a moment where truth can be encountered.

The question is: are we present where people are searching?

VOV World notes that this year’s Da Lat Flower Festival brought together music, art, and tradition to celebrate the city’s identity as Vietnam’s “Flower Festival City” and a UNESCO “Creative City of Music.”

The Da Lat Flower Festival is Vietnam’s glorious tribute to its identity as the “City of Eternal Spring.” Held in a cool, mountainous region, this biennial event transforms the entire city into a breathtaking canvas, showcasing floral arrangements, parades, and cultural performances that draw millions of visitors.

In moments like these, where beauty draws people together, there’s also an opportunity for deeper connection. The theme of renewal, so central to blooming flowers, mirrors the Christian message of new life and resurrection available through faith. With this, the festival becomes a fertile ground where Christians can engage with people’s deepest longings, offering the lasting hope of the Gospel in a context of shared cultural appreciation.

Every conversation, every livestream comment, every message is an open door. People are listening. People are asking. And the Gospel has something to say.

God at Work Where Few Are Looking

Vietnam’s church is humble, creative, and resilient. Discipleship often happens in homes, over shared meals, or in whispered prayers. Yet digital spaces are becoming new meeting places. It is where encouragement, Scripture, and testimonies circulate quietly but powerfully.

Faith is moving in the unseen. A short video shared at the right moment. A Bible verse sent in a group chat at midnight. A private message that turns into a prayer request.

The Spirit is already at work.

So We Ask…

If millions are searching for meaning online, if hope can cross borders through screens, and if someone in Vietnam is scrolling right now, wondering if life has purpose, who will be there to meet them?

The story of Vietnam is still being written.

Let’s make sure it’s written with love, creativity, and the Good News of Jesus. And if you want to help reach this country, we would love to hear from you.
