The morning began with worship in three language: English, Swahili & Amharic. I am always reminded of how big and great God is when we worship in multiple languages! It is a blessing to be together with brothers and sisters from across Africa and around the world!
Simon Seow from the Indigitous core team brought us to Galatians 2: 15-21 where we see that we have nothing to prove, nothing to lose and nothing to hide in Christ. It was a great reminder that our ministry must come out of the overflow of our relationship with Jesus. In the midst of all the exciting new things happening it was good to reset and remember Jesus is the reason for all these things.
Then we heard from Erik Hersman, the ‘WhiteAfrican’, who shared about his ups and downs developing new technology in Africa’s emerging markets. He stressed the importance of knowing how to communicate and being tenacious. It was incredible to learn how creativity and stubbornness can lead to seeing ideas come to life.
It was appropriate to hear from Erik in the morning as we began working on real projects. Erik reminded us that constraints often lead to innovation and that getting it done is usually better than getting it perfect. As we broke in 11 groups working on real projects that will help meet the needs of the digital ministries in Africa, I am thankful to be a part of a group that doesn’t just talk about what could be, but does something about it!
