It’s amazing what God will do when you put technology in the hands of indigenous people who love Him.
Good News Productions, International, is doing just that. They are committed to helping local people around the world make Christ known through media technology. As they have asked people what it would take to reach their country, GNPI has seen people creatively meet the needs of their communities.
The Global Gospel
For example, one believer in Africa spends time replicating Gospel video content in Swahili onto SD cards that can be read on phones. He gave one to a 14-year-old girl, who showed it to her grandmother; it was the first time they had ever heard the Gospel.
The content on that card, 88 three-minute videos from the Gospels created by GNPI, is known as The Global Gospel. When 80% of the unreached world is illiterate or prefers visual learning, these videos are powerful tools. The Global Gospel is being translated into the top 25 most common languages in the world; once translated, it is accessible online and on DVD and SD card. You can currently download content in 17 languages here.
Project NOMAD
Project NOMaD (National Outreach using Media And Discipleship) teams from GNPI equip believers with the resources to produce Gospel-driven media in their areas. They teach indigenous people to recognize cultural trends and to produce products that speak to those trends.
As a result, they have produced over 100 music videos in Kenya, as well as a video on spousal abuse, PSAs in Russia — such as a 30-second clip on the sanctity of life, movies about street kids in the Philippines, and worship videos in Chile, just to name a few.
One of the barriers to viewing this media in many places is a lack of electricity. GNPI’s solution to this is solar kits: Designed to serve places without electricity, these lightweight projectors use “the power of the sun to talk about the Son.” Recently in Uganda, several people trusted Christ as a result of viewing media presented on a solar kit.
The power of God’s Spirit working through the creativity of indigenous people and digital tools is bringing people to Christ. One of the ways GNPI hopes to make great strides forward in their work is by putting their content on an app. If you are interested in helping them develop the app, please contact them at www.gnpi.org.
