Indigitous to host 8th annual hackathon, a global event promoting innovation in missions.

Indigitous is hosting its 8th annual hackathon through the months of October and November, 2024. #HACK is a global event where participants come together to create innovative, and often digital, solutions to issues facing their communities.

Computer programmers, developers, engineers, project managers, communicators, marketers, data analysts, designers, strategists, UI/UX experts, creatives, film/videographers and content creators collaborate in their respective cities or across borders for a month-long innovation sprint.

Since its debut in 2016, #HACK has left a significant impact on local communities, taking place in over 52 countries and 112 cities, and involving over 7,376 participants.

Bring #HACK To Your City

This October, over 2000 plan to gather in more than 80 locations around the world for a global hackathon that aims to take the gospel to new people, places, and spaces.

Previous hackathon projects have included a team collaborating virtually to fight online sexual abuse involving children in the Philippines. In partnership with the International Justice Mission (IJM), the team prototyped a suite of seven voice products to report online sexual exploitation. At the end of the hackathon, they had working minimum viable products (MVP) for all seven products, including a redesign of the IJM webpage, chatbots, content for a voicemail system, and more.

“I love the idea of an alternative option to text,” said Marie-Ange Eyoum Tagnue, head of product at Yahoo and one of #HACK2022’s global judges.

A team in Thailand worked with data from the Joshua Project to identify where least-reached people groups seek refuge from hostile nations and where the Gospel might be shared most effectively.

“My favorite part of #HACK is brainstorming together to solve the problem,” said George, a participant of #HACK2022 in Hong Kong. “I love that like-minded people come together to build for the Kingdom. It’s just so inspiring.”
